Hi there! I’m Mary, the heart behind Hearth & Hound.

I’ve spent years building my career around one simple belief: pets deserve thoughtful, individualized care, and the people who love them deserve to feel confident about who is caring for them. My approach to grooming has always been about more than a haircut—it’s about paying attention to the individual animal in front of me, understanding what they need, and creating an experience where their comfort and wellbeing matter just as much as the finished look.

I’m also a pet parent. Oats(right), is a senior with bad back legs and two torn ACLs. Cinnamon (center), my poodle is a rambunctious puppy. And Avalanche (left), is a rescue with a lot of anxiety and a few behavioral challenges of his own. They have given me an even deeper appreciation for the different seasons and challenges that come with caring for our animals. I know what it’s like to watch your dog grow older, navigate the puppy years, or give a rescue the time and patience they need to feel secure. Those experiences are part of why I care so deeply about treating every pet in my care with the same patience, respect, and attention I want for my own.

Hearth & Hound grew from that same philosophy, with a more personal, down-to-earth approach. I wanted to create a place where thoughtful grooming, genuine relationships, and a little bit of country comfort could come together. Whether your pet is here for a routine groom, needs a little extra patience and understanding, or simply enjoys being treated like one of the family, I want their time here to feel calm, caring, and worthwhile.

At the end of the day, I’m here because I genuinely love what I do—and I believe the best kind of pet care is built on trust, respect, and taking the time to do things right. When you leave your pet with me, I want you to know they’re being cared for with the same thoughtfulness I give my own.

About Me
A Background in Training & Behavior
I have a background in dog training and behavior, including formal education through Animal Behavior College and hands-on apprenticeships with multiple professional pet trainers. This experience has given me a strong foundation in understanding canine communication, behavior, and learning, which I apply to creating a more thoughtful and cooperative grooming experience.
Pet CPR Certified
I am Pet Tech Pet CPR and First Aid certified, with training focused on recognizing and responding to common pet emergencies. This training is an important part of maintaining a safe grooming environment and being prepared to respond if an unexpected situation arises.
Years of Pet Grooming Experience
I have been a professional groomer for four years and have experience working with a wide range of breeds, coat types, ages, and temperaments. I built and continue to run Dolled Up Dogs, a values-based grooming salon focused on providing thoughtful, individualized care while maintaining high standards for safety, quality, and professionalism. Running my own salon has given me experience not only in grooming, but also in developing service standards, supporting a team, and continually evaluating how we can provide better care. I am committed to continued education and regularly seek out opportunities to expand my knowledge and refine my skills, because staying current in an evolving industry is an important part of being a responsible professional.
